Why are no awards given for jazz and classical in the American Music Awards?

The awards honor rap, rock, pop, R&B, and country music. However, I have not seen any blues performer win in the R&B category. Jazz, classical and latin genres of music are ignored. Is this just a big, long advertisement for mostly horrible "top 40" music?
