Hip Hop is a movement and it has proven its message as just that since its genesis and is continuing to do so, as we speak. When President Obama was running for office. He reached out to the Hip Hop community because he knew how much influence we had in crossing all genres music, all races nationally and internationally. According to an article written by Dwayne West (TBTNews Service) – “Hip hop mogul Jay – Z (Shaun Carter) and urban spokesperson for President Barack Obama, recently stated that hip hop culture has done more for race relations in America the last 30 years than any other individual, genre or movement” He then goes on to write “This is what made hip hop culture such a dynamic and powerful tool of communication. Because as much as we complain about poverty, crime and destruction in urban hoods, white kids and others face those same dilemmas in their day to day lives. So when they hear lyrics about drugs and police brutality, they can relate, because they’ve faced identical challenges and prejudices.” Most will agree with both Jay – Z and West viewpoint. However overtime some media outlets has perpetuated Hip Hop for its negative impact instead of its honorary attributes. Although. ” Hip hop is a billion dollar industry,and cant be denied of its wealth, power and influence it embraces.” We should recognize our strengths and execute it effectively as possible!
